Market Research Presentation

Market research decks fail by presenting everything found. Lead with the decision the research exists to inform, then give only the findings that move that decision.

The slide sequence

Each step names the Lumen slide layout to use, so you can build this deck by adding layouts to a blank deck in order. Manual building is free and unlimited, and it does not consume the AI meter.

  1. The question we set out to answer

The decision this research informs, stated first.

    Title
  2. What we found, in one line

The answer. Do not make the room wait for it.

  3. How we researched it

Sources, sample and dates. Enough to be challenged on.

    TitleContent
  4. The market as it is

Size and structure, built bottom up where possible.

    Chart
  5. Who the buyers are

Segments with the trigger that makes them buy.

    ThreeColumn
  6. What they do today

The current alternative, including doing nothing.

    Process
  7. The competitive picture

Named players positioned on an honest axis.

  8. What is changing

The trend that makes timing matter.

    Timeline
  9. What contradicts our thesis

The evidence against. Builds credibility faster than more support.

  10. What we still do not know

Explicit limits, so nobody over-reads the deck.

  11. What we recommend

The decision this supports, with the reasoning.

  12. Sources

    Every source listed and dated.

Read the titles alone before you present. Written as statements rather than labels, the titles of this deck should tell the whole story on their own. If they read as a table of contents, the sequence is fine but the writing is not.

What makes this deck fail

  • Presenting everything found. Research volume is not research value; include only what moves the decision.
  • Top-down market sizing only. Build bottom up and show the working, or the number gets discounted.
  • Omitting contradictory evidence. It surfaces in questions, and costs far more there.
  • Undated sources. A 2021 figure presented as current is the fastest way to lose the room.
  • No recommendation. Research that stops at findings pushes the hard part back to the reader.

Frequently asked questions

What should a market research presentation include?

The question and the decision it informs, the answer up front, method and sources, market size built bottom up, buyer segments, the competitive picture, contradictory evidence, limits and a recommendation.

How do you size a market credibly?

Bottom up: identifiable customers multiplied by realistic price, with the working shown. Top-down slices of an analyst total are routinely discounted by experienced audiences.

Should I include research that contradicts my conclusion?

Yes. A slide naming the strongest counter-evidence builds more credibility than additional supporting data, and it pre-empts the question you would otherwise face.

How recent do sources need to be?

Recent enough that nothing material has changed, and always dated on the slide. An undated figure is treated as unverifiable.

Can I build a market research deck for free?

Yes. Manual building from a blank deck in Gixo Lumen is free and unlimited on every plan, including PPTX export.
