Everything you need to build a deck in Lumen
Slide decks and scrolling visual stories: how to make them, present them and get the files out, with a link to each screen.
Start here
What Lumen is
Lumen turns a topic or a planned outline — grounded, if you like, in web pages and files you provide — into a slide deck. Each slide gets a layout suited to what it has to say. You then edit the deck directly or with AI, restyle it with any of 34 themes, present it with speaker notes and a timer, and download it as PowerPoint, PDF, HTML or images.
The same workspace makes Stanza stories: responsive, scrolling web stories that read well on a phone, instead of fixed slides. Decks expand into stories, and stories convert back into editable decks.
Your Lumen workspace
Everything you make in Lumen — decks and stories — is listed in one workspace, with search. Create in Lumen at the top offers Make Slides and Visual Story. Below it, Start in Lumen has shortcuts for common decks: an executive update, a consulting strategy, a fundraising pitch and a visual story.
Ways to start a deck
Pick your route before you type
Switching between Make slides, Outline first and From documents cancels whatever that tab was doing. Only the deck workflow carries over, so choose the route first.
Making slides from a topic
- TopicAnswer What should your slides be about? — for example, a company update or a product launch plan.
- OptionsAudience & goal; Slides: 20 concise, 30 standard (the default) or 40 in-depth; Language; and Deck Workflow. Decks in other languages are written in English first, then translated.
- Make SlidesLumen shows each stage as it works, with a time estimate: about 4–6 minutes for 20 slides, 5–8 for 30 and 6–10 for 40. You can leave the page, and an early preview fills in as slides are finished.
- Open SlidesWhen Your Slides Are Ready! appears, open the deck in the editor.
Planning an outline first
Enter the topic, language, deck length (20, 30 or 40 slides), workflow and any extra instructions. Under Source Material, import public web pages by URL or upload documents — text, PDF, audio or video, up to five files at a time and 500 MB each. Research Controls set how sources are used (Auto, Reference only, or Allow web browsing) and how strict the evidence should be (Balanced, High-trust only, or Primary-only). Click Plan 3 Layout-Aware Options, choose and edit an outline, then Generate Presentation.
Eight deck workflows
The workflow you pick shapes both the story the deck tells and the slides Lumen chooses.
| Workflow | Shapes the deck for |
|---|---|
| General Business | Polished, versatile presentations for mixed audiences. This is the default. |
| Consulting / Strategy | Structured thinking for client strategy, transformation or advisory work. |
| Finance / Investment | Evidence-first financial storytelling for investment and operating reviews. |
| Startup / Fundraising | Pitch storytelling for founders, investor updates and fundraising. |
| Sales / Marketing | Persuasion-led decks for pitches, campaigns and revenue conversations. |
| Corporate / Executive | Boardroom-ready leadership updates and cross-functional alignment. |
| Product / Internal | Product reviews, launches, roadmaps and internal operating updates. |
| Training / Education | Teaching-first decks for onboarding, workshops, courses and enablement. |
Themes and layouts
Lumen has 34 themes and 26 slide layouts. It chooses a layout for each slide from what that slide has to say: a comparison gets a comparison layout, a key number gets a big-number layout. The layouts include timelines, process flows, charts, tables, roadmaps, matrices, dashboards, team slides and FAQs. Change the theme at any point and every slide restyles without rebuilding the deck.
Changing the theme saves the deck
A new theme applies straight away to every slide and is saved immediately. Saved brand themes and Apply Brand Kit are available on the Business plan and up.
The deck editor
Every deck opens in the editor. Arrow keys move between slides, and the toolbar holds everything else.
| Toolbar | What it does |
|---|---|
| Theme | Presets, saved brand themes and a manual colour override, all in one place. |
| Undo / Redo | ⌘Z and ⌘⇧Z. |
| Edit slide | Opens the slide editor. You can also edit text right on the canvas. Per-field AI Assist needs a plan that includes AI. |
| Ask Lumen | Describe a change and Lumen updates the slides that need it. |
| Export | PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, all slides as images, or the current slide as an image. |
| Sources | The sources the deck cites. |
| Share | A public link, or sharing with named people on your team. |
| Present | Full-screen present mode (see below). |
| More | See All Slides (the overview grid), Version History, slide density, Make a Copy (an exact duplicate, no AI), Make Another Version, Regenerate Deck, Expand into a Visual Story, Apply Brand Kit, People and Delete Slides. |
Cheap to iterate
Editing a single slide with AI doesn't use plan capacity. Changes that Ask Lumen makes across the whole deck do, and so do Regenerate Deck and Make Another Version.
Presenting
Present opens full screen. Press N for speaker notes, T for the timer, Ctrl+K to jump to any slide and Esc to exit. Open audience window (second screen) gives the room a clean view that follows your current slide while you keep your notes.
Getting the files out
Open Export in the editor and choose PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, all slides as images, or the current slide as an image.
The headline
Downloading your own deck never needs a plan. PowerPoint, PDF, HTML and image exports carry no watermark, during a trial and after it ends. If the export service is busy, try again in a moment.
What “hybrid” PowerPoint export means
Slides with a supported layout come out as native, editable text and shapes. Complex slides come out as images so they keep their design. PDF reproduces the theme layout exactly, so use it when the look matters more than editing. For some languages PowerPoint isn't available, but PDF, HTML and images still work.
- A readiness check runs first. It stops a PDF or PowerPoint export if a slide still has an unresolved placeholder, an unfilled image slot or a browser-only image, and it tells you which slide to fix. It also warns about slides whose text won't be editable in PowerPoint.
- Cited Sources slide. If the deck cites sources, a formatted sources slide is added to the PDF and PowerPoint files.
Stanza: stories that scroll
A deck is a sequence of fixed frames. A Stanza story is a responsive web page that someone scrolls, and it reflows cleanly on a phone. It lives in the same workspace, with its own editor and present mode.
- Describe the storyAnswer What should the story communicate? in 10 to 4,000 characters. Title, audience, story blueprint and output language are optional. You can also paste up to 20,000 characters of source material.
- Shape itReading flow: continuous scroll, section snap or guided story. Visual scenes: 3 to 30, default 22. Generated images: 0 to 12.
- Pick a themeThere are eight, each a complete visual system: Aurora (dark, vivid, luminous), Paper (light, restrained, printed), Editorial Ink (warm, literary), Ocean Depth (immersive, calm), Botanical (organic, optimistic), Signal (bold, direct), Plum (expressive, cinematic) and Boardroom (precise, executive).
- Generate visual storyCreating a story uses plan capacity. Some accounts also see Plan first, which lets you ground the story in files (up to five, 500 MB each) and approve a scene plan before anything is generated.
Editing a story
- Write and Design & preview modes. Stanza saves when you click Save, and it warns you before you leave with unsaved changes.
- Each scene has a capacity budget. It reads Fits, Getting full or Needs another scene. When a scene is overfull, use Continue on new scene rather than cramming, because that budget is what keeps stories readable on a phone.
- There are two kinds of image. An image block sits in the flow of a scene: pick one of the story's images or paste a direct URL, and add alt text (required) and a caption. A section background sits behind the content: set Background to Media and choose an image. There's no upload button in the story editor; images come from generation or a pasted URL.
- Use my brand colours in the Theme panel opens six swatches: primary, accent, page, cards, text and secondary text. Anything you leave unset keeps the theme's own colour. If text and background end up too close to read, the panel shows the contrast ratio.
Presenting and converting
A story presents full screen. Scenes lists every scene so you can jump straight to one, and Notes shows your presenter notes, which never appear in the story, an export or a shared link. The Notes button appears once a scene has notes. From the story viewer, Create editable Lumen deck turns a story into a deck; from a deck, Expand into a Visual Story goes the other way. Stories download as HTML, PDF or PowerPoint while your Lumen trial or plan is active.
What needs a plan
| Action | What it takes |
|---|---|
| Downloading your decks | Nothing. Deck exports are never gated. |
| Generating decks and stories; AI editing | An active trial or plan. Uses plan capacity, except single-slide AI edits. |
| Starting a blank deck | An active trial or plan. No plan capacity used. |
| Public share links | Any plan, including the trial. |
| Sharing with people, comments | Professional and up. |
| Brand Kit, saved brand themes | Business and up. |
| Deck from Documents | A Gixo Business plan. |
Without an active plan, slides show a small “Made with Gixo” mark in the editor and in present mode. Downloaded files don't carry it.
Plans and your trial
Lumen is priced per seat, in US dollars. Every plan includes generation capacity that resets each month; your subscriptions page shows a usage bar rather than counts.
| Plan | Per seat, monthly | Per seat, annual | Minimum seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | $10 | $90 | 1 |
| Starter | $25 | $250 | 1 |
| Professional | $45 | $450 | 2 |
| Business | $55 | $550 | 5 |
| Enterprise | $99 | $999 | 10, through Azure Marketplace or a private offer |
Your 14-day trial
- No card is needed, and each email address gets one Lumen trial. It includes AI generation and clean exports, and it works like Starter: public links are included, sharing with people and Brand Kit aren't.
- After the trial, your decks stay available to review, present and download; AI generation and AI editing pause until you choose a plan.

Tips
- Start another deck while one builds. Generation carries on after you leave the page.
- Save before opening Version History. It lists versions of a saved deck.
- Exact look? Use PDF. PowerPoint turns complex slides into images so they keep their design.
- If an export stops, the message names the slide. Fix the placeholder or image and export again.
