Single line vs. double and multi-line graphs
A single-line graph tracks one series over a continuous axis — monthly revenue, weekly signups, a temperature reading over a day. It answers one question: which way is this number moving, and how fast?
A double-line (or multi-line) graph plots two or more series on the same axes so you can compare their trends directly — this year vs. last year, plan vs. actual, two products side by side. Because the lines share a scale, the gaps and crossovers between them carry the meaning.
