Medium Publishing Guide

Connect Gixo to Medium and send drafts from Gixo. Set up your token, send a draft, and publish with your formatting mostly intact.

How to Connect and Publish

Five steps from generating your Medium integration token to publishing your first article.

1
Generate an Integration Token

Go to your Medium settings, navigate to Security and Apps, and click Integration Tokens. Create a new token with a descriptive name like "Gixo" and copy the generated token immediately — it is only shown once.

2
Connect in Gixo Settings

Open Gixo Settings, go to Integrations, and select Medium. Paste your integration token and click Connect. Gixo verifies the token and confirms your Medium account is linked.

3
Generate Your Content

Create an article, blog post, or newsletter in Gixo using the content editor. Edit and refine the content until you are satisfied with the output before sending it to Medium.

4
Send as Draft to Medium

Click the publish action and select Medium as the destination. Content is sent as a draft to your Medium account, giving you a chance to review it in Medium's editor before going live.

5
Review and Publish on Medium

Open Medium, review the draft in their editor, add tags, set a featured image if desired, and publish when ready. The draft preserves your formatting from Gixo — headers, bold text, lists, and blockquotes.

Formatting Tip
Medium strips some advanced HTML — keep formatting simple for best results. Headers, bold, italic, lists, blockquotes, and images transfer cleanly. Avoid complex tables or custom CSS, which Medium does not support.
SEO Tip
Set a canonical URL when cross-posting to avoid duplicate content penalties. If the article originally lives on your own blog, setting the canonical URL in Medium tells search engines which version is the original source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find the Medium integration token?
Go to your Medium profile, click Settings, then Security and Apps, then scroll to Integration Tokens. Click the button to generate a new token. Copy it immediately — Medium only displays it once. If you lose it, generate a new one.
Does content publish as a draft or go live directly?
Content is sent as a draft to your Medium account. This gives you a chance to review the article in Medium's editor, add tags, adjust the featured image, and set publication preferences before publishing it publicly.
Is formatting preserved when publishing to Medium?
Core formatting is preserved — headers, bold, italic, lists, blockquotes, code blocks, and images all transfer cleanly. Medium does not support custom CSS, complex tables, or embedded widgets, so those elements may be simplified.
Can I publish to a Medium Publication?
Yes, if you are a writer for a Medium Publication. After sending the draft to Medium, you can submit it through Medium's normal submission steps. The draft appears in your account ready for that step.
How do canonical URLs work with Medium?
When you import or cross-post content, Medium lets you set a canonical URL that tells search engines the original source. This prevents duplicate content penalties. Set the canonical URL to your primary blog if the article exists elsewhere.
